The Order of Nehor series shares a fascinating tale of greed and betrayal, as a lone massacre survivor discovers a devastating truth that both saves and condemns her.
The time is 82 BCE - during the rise of a remarkably sophisticated civilization in Mesoamerica. Here, exacting mathematicians, expert astronomers, and, most significantly, the distinguished priesthood elite influenced the building of magnificent ornate cities and complex governance. Raasah, the daughter of a powerful Nephite pochtecatl and of a renowned high priestess, was a proud educated youth, nearing her age of maturity, living a privileged pampered life. Then, in one horrific night of carnage, her life would change forever.
Miraculously spared from a vicious attack on her father's caravan, Raasah desperately longs to understand why she alone survived. In her search for answers, she becomes increasingly aware of the suffering and injustice around her - finding herself immersed in the growing evil that has permeated the very fabric of her beloved city of Ammonihah. With deep pride, she also learned of the valuable role her father's Brotherhood regimen played in keeping Ammonihahites safe.
Amid covert combinations of intrigue and tyranny, Raasah finds solace and aid from three unlikely comrades - an unconventional healer, a pious carpenter, and an inquisitive orphan. Together with the Brotherhood, they slowly uncover clues of who may be behind the murder of not just Raasah's father but of the murders and disappearances of so many other honourable citizens. As their queries progress, though, the priestcraft values and beliefs that have been engrained in Raasah are direly tested and become... disturbingly dubitable!
There was a man named Nehor who flattered the people into establishing a society and religion of greed and power. It became known as the Order of Nehor. This order caused great contention among the great Mesoamerican civilization. Even after the death of this man, his society continued but in a more evil manner through another man who enlisted people through promises of power and wealth, increasing the following. Their secret ordinances became more cruel and evil with their secret ceremonies of lust, murder, and other drug-induced acts of heinous nature.
But, after a terrible battle, this Nehor leader died as well and, with it, this wicked society. Or so they thought! Now only some very short years later in the bustling city of Ammonihah, the Order of Nehor has survived, pushed underground, festering and growing more powerful each day, covertly infiltrating the priesthood order and the government itself. As suspicions arise, citizens who openly oppose the subtle changes being introduced into their society mysteriously disappear or are found murdered in the night. Their weak useless governor is easily swayed by those who ingratiate themselves to him.
These are the conditions that privileged Raasah, daugher of Botholuem, finds herself. Now that her father and friends have become the Nehor society’s newest murdered victims, she is on a mission to unearth the cause and revenge her father’s death. Ignorant of a plot to corrupt the present priesthood order that she reveres and her own preplanned destiny, she becomes aware of the evil permeating her society and realizes the wrongs that she herself had learned to accept.
Exasperating the situation even more, Alma, an outsider and professed high priest, speaks out against the actions of the powerful elite, gaining his own following. This exasperates the unconscionable Nehors enough for this secret society to take horrific action against them. Meanwhile, in the midst of the slurry of ravenousness and illicitness, Raasah shockingly learns how she, herself, is being used as a pawn by the daunting Order of Nehor.
Tara gets left behind in wicked Ammonihah. She is devastated by the demise of her dear friends but is spurred on by the discovery of someone she believes may have survived. Stay tuned for details!
